Danehill Dancer Stars at Woodbine

1st June 2008

The great Danehill Dancer had his 68th stakes winner worldwide last weekend when the Roger Attfield-trained Callwood Dancer (4f Danehill Dancer-Ahdaab, by Rahy) captured the G2 Nassau Stakes at Woodbine in Canada. The filly led from start to finish in the 1 1/16 mile event to take her record to two wins from two starts this season.

"We've been trying to find our way with her a little bit," Attfield said. "We gave her a lot of time over the winter. Looking at the race, there didn't seem to be much pace. I had a feeling that she'd probably find herself on the lead. That's exactly how it turned out. She's a brave filly. It's hard to go all the way on the front on this turf course."

Callwood Dancer, a 100,000 euros yearling purchase from Goffs, finished second in a Windsor maiden as a two-year-old when trained in England by Barry Hills and looks to have an excellent year ahead of her.Danehill Dancer has his best-bred bunch of two-year-olds so far running for him this year in Europe, where he came close to another Classic success in the recent G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas when Caribbean Sunset (3f Danehill Dancer-Bonheur, by Royal Academy) was beaten a head and a neck into
third.
