First Stakes-Winner for One Cool Cat
29th May 2008
One Cool Cat has already sired 10 first crop winners in Europe this season and passed an important milestone in producing his first stakes-winner in England on Wednesday when Knavesmire (2f One Cool Cat x Caribbean Escape, by Pivotal) took the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley. The two year-old filly jumped well and raced handily throughout before forging clear of stablemate Caranbola to score by a neck, her second win from five starts with two minor placings.
“I came here hoping to be placed at least and Knavesmire is a decent filly who wasn’t beaten far at York last time,” said winning owner trainer Mel Brittain.
“This stiffer track suited her, but I think I’ll leave Royal Ascot now and she can have a break along with Caranbola.”
Knavesmire is from the Pivotal mare Caribbean Escape, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winning sprinter Fleet So Fast and half-sister to stakes-winner Splice the dam of top class juvenile filly Soar, winner of the Group Two Lowther Stakes at York.
Knavesmire has proven a great bargain for Mel Brittain, purchased for just 10,000 euros at the Goffs Sportsman’s Yearling Sale from the draft of Springwell Stud.
