South African Group Three Winner for Galileo

Leading European sire Galileo featured in South Africa when his Australian bred son Alvaro (3g Galileo x Gun Lady, by Thatching) saluted in the Group Three Winter Classic over 1800 metres at Kenilworth on Saturday.The Justin Snaith trained Alvaro enjoyed the run of the race in third position and accelerated when they turned for home to kick well clear then coasted to the line to win by a length.
In scoring his first Black Type victory, Alvaro took his record to a handy five wins from 10 starts.
An $80,000 purchase from the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale for James Bester Bloodstock, Alvaro is a half-brother by Galileo to the stakes-winner Huntingdale High from good producer Gun Lady.
