Meal Penalty Does it Again
25th May 2008
Improving three year-old Meal Penalty (3c Tale of the Cat x Unbridled Beauty, by Unbridled’s Song) scored his third successive win when taking the Listed $150,000 Arlington Classic on turf by three parts of a length. The Todd Pletcher trained colt has blossomed in recent weeks winning his last three starts following an unplaced effort in the Group Two Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita back in February.
Having his first start on turf, Meal Penalty showed his usual speed to be prominent throughout the one and 1/16th mile event and kicked on strongly to the line taking his overall record to five wins from nine starts with earnings of $224,895.
A $220,000 yearling purchase from the Fasig Tipton August Sale, Meal Penalty then fetched $350,000 when offered for sale as a two year-old in training and is from the Group Two placed Unbridled Beauty, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tax Refund by Unbridled’s Song.
His second dam Dreamscape is a full sister to champion sprinter Housebuster, so it's not a wonder Meal Penalty has shown speed to burn.
Meal Penalty is one of 47 stakes-winners worldwide for Tale of the Cat, who has proven a successful sire in both hemispheres.
