Encosta Stars at HTBA Awards

Outstanding sire Encosta de Lago was honoured in Scone on Wednesday evening at the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) awards ceremony where he received the William Inglis & Son Champion Sire Award.

The sire of 51 stakes-winners worldwide with progeny earnings in excess of $62 million, Encosta de Lago is on track to be Champion Sire for the 2007/2008 racing season in Australia with some 112 individual winners since August 1 including a dozen stakes-winners led by Group One winners Racing to Win, Sirmione and Shadoways.

Also honoured was the Coolmore owned broodmare Surrealist, winner of the Scone Veterinary Hospital Champion Broodmare Award.

The dam of multiple Group One winner Racing to Win and Group Three winner Purrealist, Surrealist was purchased by Tom Magnier for $1.6 million at the 2006 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Surrealist produced a full brother to Racing to Win at Coolmore Stud last spring and is back in foal to his sire Encosta de Lago.
