Golan's brother favourite for Derby

19th May 2008

Golan’s full-brother Tartan Bearer (3c Spectrum-Highland Gift, by Generous) is 4/1 favourite with some bookmakers for the G1 Derby after his victory in the G2 Dante Stakes at York last week.

Sir Michael Stoute trains the colt for breeders Ballymacoll Stud and he is hopeful of a bold show at Epsom.

"I was very pleased with this fellow. It just shows how progressive he is. He won his maiden at Leicester in workmanlike fashion, but that's him. He is not exhilarating in his work at home but he will travel really well," said Stoute.

"I think he got in front long enough and will have learnt from that. He wasn't going to get beat but he was just doing enough there. That will sharpen him up mentally as well. I am entitled to be very hopeful about this fellow and I think he goes (to the Derby) with a chance."

Meanwhile Golan’s recent Curragh G3 winner Regime (4c Golan-Juno Madonna, by Sadler’s Wells) is set to make his next appearance in the G3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown next week.
