Heavenly Brisbane Debut
17th May 2008
Outstanding filly Heavenly Glow (3f Spinning World x Starsphere, by Celestial Bounty) made an auspicious Brisbane debut when she scored a powerful win over classy local filly Pentacity in the Group Three BTC Doomben Roses on Saturday.Ridden a confident race by regular partner Robert Thompson, the Alan Denham, trained filly settled beautifully in the run and then surged forward out wide coming to the turn.
From there she always had them covered and coasted home to win the 2020 metre event by the best part of a length in a performance that will see her start favourite in the Group One QTC Queensland Oaks in two weeks time.
Already a dual Group One winner of the AJC Australian Oaks and STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes, Heavenly Glow now boasts the overall record of nine wins and three placings from 16 starts, her prizemoney soaring to $752,360.
A bargain purchase for her owners, Heavenly Glow was secured by part-owner and former trainer Ross Stitt for a paltry $10,000 from the draft of Sarsfield Thoroughbreds at the 2006 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
She is the third foal of the stakes-winning Celestial Bounty (IRE) mare Starsphere, a winner of nine races up to 2400 metres including the Listed TTC Tasmanian St Leger.
Heavenly Glow is one of 37 stakes-winners worldwide for evergreen shuttle sire Spinning World who is now a permanent resident at Coolmore Australia.
