Aussie Group Three Winner for Peintre Celebre
17th May 2008
Handy six year-old Rum Dum (6g Peintre Celebre x McCartney, by Trustful) jumped out of the ground at Doomben on Saturday to score the first Black Type success of his career in the Group Three BTC Lord Mayors Cup over 1615 metres. The Barry Baldwin trained son of Peintre Celebre was coming off a good last start win at the Gold Coast, but was still facing a big rise in class which he handled with aplomb.
Passed in as a yearling and retained to race, Rum Dum has won seven races and placed 11 times from 45 starts earning $183,900 in prizemoney.
He is the only stakes-winner in his immediate family and is from the metropolitan winning Trustful mare McCartney (died 2005), who has left three winners including the former handy Sydney mare Mayaguana.
Rum Dum is one of 34 stakes-winners worldwide for Arc winner Peintre Celebre, who shuttled to Australia for six seasons for Coolmore leaving a number of smart horses including Group One winners Bentley Biscuit, Mr Celebrity and Mr Sandgroper.
