Smart Aussie Winners for Fupeg

13th May 2008

Royally bred filly Rhema (3f Fusaichi Pegasus x Mannington, by Danehill) made it back-to-back wins when scoring over 1200 metres at Moe on Tuesday.

Trained by Lee Freedman for Paul Fleming, Rhema stepped up in grade to a Ratings 68 event after breaking her maiden at Kilmore last start and repeated her previous effort to win comfortably by more than a length after being handy throughout.

Bred by Vinery Stud, Rhema is a half-sister to Group One VRC Victoria Derby winner Benicio being from the Group Three winning Danehill mare Mannington, who was purchased by Darley for $2,050,000 at the 2005 Inglis Broodmare Sale when offered as part of the Vinery Dispersal.

Rhema was purchased by Paul Fleming privately prior to the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where she would undoubtedly have sold for upwards of $1million had she entered the sale ring for Bellerive Stud, having been purchased from Vinery in a private package deal of weanlings that also included Group One winner Forensics.

Fusaichi Pegasus made it a double for the day when five year-old mare Poetic Genius (5m Fusaichi Pegasus x Sprinkler, by Danehill) took the last race at Canterbury and like Rhema, she too is from a Danehill mare in Sprinkler, the full sister to Golden Slipper winner Catbird.

A $275,000 purchase for trainer Graeme Rogerson from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2004 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and Group Two placed as a juvenile, Poetic Genius has won three races and placed eight times from 23 starts earning $78,300 and will make into a lovely broodmare when her racing days are done.
