New Stakes-Winner for Tale of the Cat

11th May 2008

Tale of the Cat posted his third new stakes-winner in the space of a week when Meal Penalty (3c Tale of the Cat x Unbridled Beauty, by Unbridled's Song) took the Shecky Greene Handicap at Arlington Park on Saturday, adding to the previous Black Type victories of Tytus and Cat D’Antibes last weekend.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Meal Penalty took his record to four wins from eight starts as he coasted home to win the six furlong race on the all weather track by a comfortable two lengths.

A $220,000 yearling purchase from the Fasig Tipton August Sale, Meal Penalty then fetched $350,000 when offered for sale as a two year-old in training and is from the Group Two placed Unbridled Beauty, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tax Refund by Unbridled’s Song.

His second dam Dreamscape is a full sister to champion sprinter Housebuster, so it's not a wonder Meal Penalty has shown his forte over the shorter journeys.

Meal Penalty becomes the 47th stakes-winner worldwide for Tale of the Cat, who has proven adept as a sire in both hemispheres.
