Guineas Win for Royal Discretion

Classy three year-old Royal Discretion (3g Royal Academy x Discretion, by Canny Lad) backed up from a brilliant win at Randwick on April 30 to add another feature race success to his resume at Hawkesbury on Saturday.The talented bay skipped along just off the lead and then kicked away in the straight to win the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas over 1400 metres by more than a length over the fast finishing Turffontein (3c Johannesburg x Spirit of Grace, by Dr Grace) to give Coolmore sires the quinella.
The Gai Waterhouse trained son of Royal Academy has now won five of 12 starts earning $300,575 and will head to Brisbane for a crack at the Group Two QTC Queendland Guineas on June 9.
“I think he’ll run the mile easily because he relaxes so well,” said Gai Waterhouse.
Raced by the Bott family’s E Thoroughbred and their South African based partners, Royal Discretion was purchased by Tony Bott for $180,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Attunga Stud.
A half-brother to Group Three placed mare Tactfully, Royal Discretion is the third foal of stakes-placed Canny Lad mare Discretion, a half-sister to South African stakes-winner Sunrise Silence.
