Classic-placed Hawk Wing colt heads to French Derby
7th May 2008
The David Elsworth-trained Stubbs Art (3c Hawk Wing-Rich Dancer, by Halling), who put in a career best effort to finish third in the G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, is likely to head to the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) at Chantilly on June 1.
The Hawk Wing colt, who was bred by Grenane House Stud, Steve Hillen and Sean Graham, finished just behind the Aidan O’Brien-trained Henrythenavigator and Galileo’s son New Approach (2c Galileo-Park Express, by Ahonoora) at Newmarket and Elsworth feels his charge will enjoy a step up in trip.
"I have always thought that Stubbs Art would be better over longer and may have a look at the French Derby with him next," Elsworth told European Bloodstock News. "He wasn't right when beaten at Sandown first time and I have always thought a lot of him."
