Kandahar Rocks
5th May 2008
The Henry Cecil-trained Kandahar Run (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Kenmist, by Kenmare) is as short as 16/1 to land next months G1 Epsom Derby after an impressive stakes success in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on Saturday.
Gestut Ammerland’s colt, a 50,000 guineas yearling bred by Britton House Stud, has not been out of the first two in his five starts to date and looks to have a bright future.
"He stays well and just thought he’d done enough when he quickened today. He thought he’d won the race," said Cecil, who would not immediately commit the colt to a visit to Epsom
"He was a bit fresh last time and we’ll definitely see if he gets a mile and a half. There are no immediate plans for him, he’s in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes and races like that - we’ll just have to see."
