Oscar Rebel rounds off great week for sire
28th April 2008
The progressive Oscar mare Oscar Rebel (6m Oscar-Be My Baltic, by Be My Native) completed a hat-trick when winning the G3 Bewleys Hotels Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Hurdle on the final day of the Irish season at Punchestown on Saturday.
Liam Burke’s charge, also a G3 winner on her previous outing, continued an excellent week for Oscar, who also sired the G1 Cathal Ryan Memorial Swordlestown Cup Novice Chase winner Big Zeb (7g Oscar-Our Siveen, by Deep Run) and G1 Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle runner-up Refinement (9m Oscar-Maneree, by Mandalus) at Punchestown on Thursday.
"Last time at Fairyhouse I gave her no chance, while today she had to give away weight and I was worried about the distance. She didn't get the run of the race today either," said Burke.
"She's very ordinary at home and just does it all on the track. That's two very nice pots and I'm delighted for her owner William Fitzgerald, who's my farrier. She'll go chasing next year."
Oscar Rebel was bred by Catherine O’Leary.
