South African Stakes Success for Miss Galilei

25th April 2008

The Listed Spook Express Stakes at Vaal in South Africa on Thursday was won by the Australian bred Miss Galilei (4m Galileo x Our Dizzy Raine, by Danehill) , a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Kitchwin Hills.

Secured by Charles Laird for Markus Jooste, the talented mare led throughout the 2400 metre event and defied all challengers to score by a neck in a driving finish taking her overall record to four wins and a second from 10 starts.

Miss Galilei is yet another stakes-winner bred on the Sadler’s Wells x Danehill cross, something that was seen to effect at Rosehill last Saturday in Group One winner Tuesday Joy (Carnegie (by Sadler’s Wells) from the Danehill mare Joie Denise) and Book of Kells (by Rock of Gibraltar  (by Danehill) from Episode (by Scenic, by Sadler’s Wells).

She is the fourth foal of her Danehill dam Our Dizzy Raine, who is a daughter of Group Two placed Sir Tristram mare Our Dizzy Heights.

Lurking further back in the pedigree is stakes-winning mare Gold Heights, enjoying a resurgence of fame as the ancestress of champion three year-old Weekend Hussler.

Miss Galilei becomes the 24th stakes-winner worldwide for Galileo whose last Australian crop are now weanlings.
