Free Handicap 1-2 for Choisir

17th April 2008

Choisir started the 2008 northern hemisphere campaign as he left off last year with a Listed 1-2 on the opening day of Newmarket’s season when Stimulation (3c Choisir-Damiana, by Thatching) came off best in a tight photo for the European Free Handicap at Newmarket from Fat Boy (3c Choisir-Gold Shift, by Night Shift).

Stimulation, a 92,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling bred by Illuminatus Investments, is now set for a tilt at the G1 2,000 Guineas back at Newmarket on May 3.

Trainer Hughie Morrison holds the colt in high regard and said: "He is so laid-back but is a star and now he has won a trial we will have to look at the Guineas.

"A fast-run mile should suit him better than a slow-run seven furlongs and it may be he wants even further in time."

The runner-up Fat Boy, a Listed winner last season, could also be bidding for Classic glory. "We thought he’d won. He’ll improve and we may go for the G1 French 2,000 Guineas," said his trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam.

Stimulation was the fourth stakes winner from Choisir’s sensational northern hemisphere crop.
