Smart Juvenile Winner for Choisir

9th April 2008

Choisir is currently the leading second crop sire by individual Australian winners this season and posted yet another at Canterbury on Wednesday when the Kris Lees trained filly Silent But Deadly (2f Choisir x Silent Smytzer, by Rory's Jester) opened her account with an easy victory.

Stakes-placed at her previous start when third in the Listed VRC Schweppes Stakes at Flemington after finishing third on debut to smart juveniles Montana Flyer and Typhoon Fury, Silent But Deadly was heavily backed and did the job in style.

Despite a tardy getaway, Silent But Deadly quickly strode up to sit behind the leaders and extended in the straight to score by more than a length in a performance that has connections looking for some Black Type.

“She is a nice enough filly that is very tough,” said Lees.

“She’s been to Melbourne and back this time in and has shown no signs that she has had enough. I’ll try her in the Listed Keith Mackay in three weeks at the back end of the carnival.”

A $60,000 purchase for Keiran Moore Bloodstock from the draft of Tony Santic’s Makybe at the 2007 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Silent But Deadly is the third foal of stakes-placed Rory’s Jester mare Silent Smytzer.

Silent But Deadly is one of 29 Australian winners this season for former champion sprinter Choisir, who leads all other second season sires by individual winners, his best performers including seven stakes horses led by Group Two winner Hurried Choice and Group One placed filly Occurrence as well as Golden Slipper contender Anatomica.

Choisir has nine yearlings entered for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and 16 for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
