29th Stakes-Winner for Rock

7th April 2008

Rock of Gibraltar added another new stakes-winner to his ever-growing tally when four year-old mare Truly Mine (4m Rock of Gibraltar x Truly Yours, by Barathea) scored in a Listed race at Dundalk in Ireland for world renowned trainer Dermot Weld.

Third in the Group Three Park Express Stakes last season and fifth in the Group One Irish Thousand Guineas, Truly Mine has returned in good form, bouncing back from a below par effort at her seasonal debut to post her first Black Type success in the Irish Stallion Farms Salsabil Stakes over 10 furlongs.

Purchased for 200,000 euros by Dermot Weld from the draft of Eyrefield Lodge Stud at the 2005 Goffs Million Sale, Truly Mine is from the Barathea mare Truly Yours, a half-sister to Group One placed shuttle sire Catcher in the Rye from the family of Group One winner Cerulean Sky.

Rock of Gibraltar has the outstanding statistic of 11% stakes-winners to runners which places him right there with the top bracket of sires, a remarkable effort given his oldest Australian progeny are three year-olds and Northern Hemisphere progeny just four year-olds. He narrowly missed out on another G2 success on Saturday when the Jeff Mullins-trained Sweeter Still (3f Rock Of Gibraltar-Beltisaal, by Belmez) lost out by just a nose in the G2 Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita.

Rock of Gibraltar has 36 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale .
