Choisir Filly for Slipper

6th April 2008

Former champion sprinter Choisir is enjoying a great run at present with a slew of recent winners and the likelihood of a Golden Slipper runner in smart filly Anatomica (2f Choisir x Africaine, by Anabaa), who secured a berth in the race after finishing second in the Group Two STC Reisling Stakes at Canterbury on Saturday.

An easy winner on debut for the Joseph Pride stable at Randwick on February 21, Anatomica showed plenty of speed to lead throughout on Saturday, going down by a head to the well seasoned Hips Don’t Lie, already a stakes-winner of four races.

Both first and second in the race are exempt from ballot for Australia’s richest juvenile event, the Group One STC Golden Slipper Stakes to be run at Rosehill on April 19.

Retained to race by her breeders, Anatomica is the first foal of the Anabaa mare Africaine who was purchased by The Superhorse Trust for $50,000 at the 2005 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale when in foal to Choisir with Anatomica the result of that mating.

Africaine is from a half-sister to Magic Millions winner Molokai Prince and is from the family of Group Two winner Flak Jacket.

Choisir also posted a Group One placing in the STC Queen of the Turf Stakes with classy filly Occurrence (3f Choisir x Happens, by Barathea) running a bold race for third behind glamour filly Forensics and the smart older mare Perfect Drop.

Choisir has nine yearlings entered for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and 16 for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
