G3 win for Oscar at Fairyhouse

24th March 2008

The Oscar mare Oscar Rebel (6m Oscar-Be My Baltic, by Be My Native) made it two wins from two starts over hurdles at Fairyhouse on Easter Sunday when running away with the G3 Masterchefs Hospitality EBF Novice Hurdle Championship Final.

Liam Burke’s charge, bred by Catherine O’Leary, took the lead two out in the two and a half mile contest and ran out a nine-length winner from Shirley Casper under Paul Carberry.

Oscar Rebel had made a successful hurdling debut at Thurles earlier in the month and she looks another top-class mare for her sire. "She was eased right down after kicking clear before the last and this looked a performance of some merit," wrote Brian Fleming in the Racing Post.

This win follows hot on the heels of a Cheltenham Festival G2 1-2 for Oscar when Whiteoak (5m Oscar-Gayla Orchestra by Lord Gayle) beat Refinement (9m Oscar-Maneree, by Mandalus) to win the G2 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle.
