Heatseeker Wins Big 'Cap

3rd March 2008

Heatseeker, an Irish-bred son of Coolmore America's Giant's Causeway, won the Grade I $1,000,000 Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday, March 1, and in doing so propelled his sire to the top of the North American Sire Tables for 2008 based on worldwide earnings. William DeBurgh's Heatseeker "unleashed an explosive turn of foot leaving the final turn" and went on to victory over 13 rivals at Santa Anita, site for the 2007 Breeders' Cup World Championships. The ever-improving 5-year-old relished the 1 1/4 miles of the Big 'Cap and must be considered a leading contender for the $5,000,000 Breeders' Cup Classic-G1. On the current list of Leading Sires in North America the Coolmore America/Ashford Stud stallions Giant's Causeway and Fusaichi Pegasus rank one-two.
