Choisir’s Winning Run Continues

Former champion sprinter Choisir has had a great week with a hat-trick of recent Aussie bred winners in Anatomica, Lady Bonzer and the very impressive Canterbury winner Occurrence (3f Choisir x Happens, by Barathea).

Debut juvenile winner Anatomica (2f Choisir x Africaine, by Anabaa) scored at Randwick on Thursday, while South African based Lady Bonzer (3f Choisir x Ladu Durelle, by Raveneaux) won at Vaal on the same day and then the Bart Cummings trained Occurrence created a huge impression with her victory over stakes-winning Rock of Gibraltar filly I Have No Fear in the Ratings 86 three year-old fillies event over 1200 metres in Sydney on Saturday.

Occurrence sat three deep from a wide gate and raced without cover before surging clear to win by the best part of a length in taking here record to three wins from four starts with prizemoney of $129,400.

“She did a very good job after drawing wide and was just much too good for them,” said delighted trainer, Bart Cummings.

Bred and offered for sale by Martin Hawcroft’s Byerley Stud under the banner of Southern Cross Breeders, Occurrence fetched $75,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the second foal of the stakes-placed Barathea mare Happens, a daughter of Irish Group Three winner Eichtercua.

Choisir has plenty of yearlings to go under the hammer at upcoming sales in Australia including 14 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and a further 26 for Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
