Third Aussie Winner for Catcher in the Rye

22nd February 2008

Young Danehill shuttle sire Catcher in the Rye had his third Australian winner at Eagle Farm on Friday when Rye Catcher (2g Catcher in the Rye x Crash, by Last Tycoon)  saluted in the 1300 metre juvenile maiden.

Rye Catcher showed the benefit of recent racing and improved off an unplaced run behind boom Queensland filly High Roll’n Woman to score by a length and a half with a step up to 1300 metres also proving beneficial.

Trained by Howard Wilson at the Gold Coast, Rye Catcher was purchased by owner Robert Stewart for $31,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale during Session Six.

Offered for sale by Noralla Stud, he is a half-brother to three winners including metropolitan winner Prang being from the Last Tycoon mare Crash.

A Group One placed son of Danehill, Catcher in the Rye stood at Coolmore Australia for just two seasons so his second and last crop of Australian foals are now yearlings with five to be offered at the upcoming Magic Millions Yearling Sale starting on March 24.
