New Star for Danehill Dancer
16th February 2008
Outstanding sire Danehill Dancer featured at Moonee Valley on Saturday with a potential star in exciting three year-old Light Fantastic (3g Danehill Dancer x Leica or Not, by Kendor), an eye-catching winner of the Listed MVRC Nissan Stakes over 1200 metres.A winner on debut at Kyneton on February 3, Light Fantastic was pitched into the deep end in tackling seasoned stakes horses at his second race start, but he emerged with flying colours after romping away to win by the best part of three lengths.
Left in his wake were spring stakes-winner Gibraltar Campion, a daughter of Rock of Gibraltar and the smart Van Nistelrooy gelding Pit Lane, giving Coolmore owned sires a stakes trifecta.
Prepared by Mick Price for owner breeder Bob Scarborough, Light Fantastic is now unbeaten in two starts and may head towards the Group One VRC Cadbury Australian Guineas.
"Today he raced like a big 1600 metre horse, I'm not sure the Valley is his track, although maybe next spring, but good horses can get their motors going in the straight here and he was like a big V8 today," declared Price.
A home bred for Mr and Mrs Scarborough’s Wood Nook Farm, Light Fantastic is the third stakes-winner for the Kendor mare Leica or Not, a half-sister to dual Doncaster Handicap winner Pharoah.
A dashing dark grey with silver mane and tail, Light Fantastic is a half-brother to Group One New Zealand Derby winner Leica Guv and Group Three winner Lectrice from the famed ‘Leica’ family that has been a prolific source of stakes-winners in this country for many years.
Light Fantastic becomes the 59th stakes-winner worldwide for Danehill Dancer who looks set for a good autumn with talented two year-old Stripper narrowly beaten in the Listed AJC Widden Stakes at Randwick and VRC Oaks winner Arapaho Miss resuming from a spell with a fine third in the Group Two MVRC Thoroughbreds Classic.
Danehil Dancer has quality drafts at upcoming sales with seven for Inglis Premier, 18 for Magic Millions on the Gold Coast and 12 for Inglis Easter.
