Group Two Winner for Encosta
16th February 2008
The colours of Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm were carried to victory at Moonee Valley on Saturday by Laura’s Charm (6m Encosta de Lago x Laura's Express, by Prego) , winner of the Group Two MVRC Sunline Stakes over 1600 metres.
Already a Group Three winner of over half a million in prizemoney, Laura’s Charm quickly proved her worth for her new owners in defying the late finishers Illinois Girl and Wayne’s Gold to win by a short half head.
Now trained by Patrick Payne, who sent the mare out fresh off a break of seven weeks, Laura’s Charm has won 10 races and $627,750 with a lucrative stud career ahead of her when her racing days are done.
Mr Tinkler and Patinack Farm have been in the headlines for purchasing studs in the Hunter Valley, $7.9 million worth of yearlings in New Zealand as well as stallion prospects Casino Prince and Wonderful World, so it’s great to see them out there winning a feature race.
Bred by Trevenson Park Stud in Victoria, Laura’s Charm is a half-sister to Group Three winner Corton Charlemagne being from the stakes-winning Prego mare Laura’s Express.
Laura’s Charm is the seventh individual Australian stakes-winner for Encosta de Lago this season making him the leading sire by stakes-winners and his progeny are sure to be in demand at upcoming sales with nine for Inglis Premier, 40 for Magic Millions on the Gold Coast and a whopping 62 for the Inglis Easter.
