Shinzig, Danehill’s Newest Group One Star

9th February 2008

Legendary sire Danehill added another Group One winner to his tally when six year-old entire Shinzig (6h Danehill x Shindig, by Straight Strike) scored a surprise win in the Group One MRC C.F. Orr Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield on Saturday.

Regarded as somewhat of a journeyman having passed through five different trainers, Shinzig arrived in the last few bounds to claim his first Group One victory in a great result for his new owners who include several Victorian studs.

Now trained by Mick Price, Shinzig has the overall record of five wins and eight placings from 38 starts with prizemoney of $640,338.

Purchased originally by Rob McAnulty at the 2003 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $400,000 from the draft of Phillipa Duncan Bloodstock, Shinzig was bred by Sue Suduk and is a full brother to the stakes-winner Strada being from Group One winning mare Shindig (NZ).

Shinzig becomes the 85th Group One winner worldwide for Danehill, whose influence as a sire of sires is on the cusp of a new wave with the first crop of yearlings by Fastnet Rock set to light up sale rings in Australia this season, while champion racehorse Dylan Thomas embarks on the first stage of his stud career in Ireland.
