Westerner dominates February Sale

8th February 2008

Westerner was responsible for the top two yearlings at this week’s Tattersalls Ireland February Sale at Fairyhouse, headed by a colt out of Daprika who made 85,000 euros when sold by Richard and Sally Aston’s Goldford Stud, based in Cheshire in England.

Peter Molony of Rathmore Stud bought the sale-topper and said: "I’ve bought him for a client of Ben Case's in England. He is a wonderful looking foal and comes from a family littered with high class jumpers."

A Westerner filly out of Kaydee Queen was another to make a splash and - sent over from Juliet Minton’s Mill House Stud in Shropshire - she sold for 50,000 euros to William McCarthy.

Westerner’s first foals were also received last year with prices of 80,000 euros, 70,000 euros, 65,000 euros (x3) etc selling to some of the leading National Hunt buyers such as Timmy Hyde, Mags O’Toole, Goldford Stud, John Nallen, Aiden Murphy, Jim Mernagh, Highflyer Bloodstock, John Dineen and Howard Johnson.
