Lightning Win for Tale of the Cat Filly
8th February 2008
Boom two year-old filly De Lightning Ridge (2f Tale of the Cat x Nanny Maroon, by Alquoz) proved her explosive first up win at Canberra on December 16 was no fluke when she repeated the dose over the same course and distance on Friday. The dashing daughter of Tale of the Cat was driven forward to lead and quickly burnt off her rivals to coast along in front until asked for an effort in the straight.
She quickly dropped her pursuers in clocking 57.71 seconds for the 1000 metres, some two hundredths of a second quicker than her debut effort in a performance that will see her hold favouritism for the Golden Slipper.
The Keith Dryden trained filly will now head towards the Listed Black Opal Stakes again on her home track on February 24 and from there will progress towards the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 19.
De Lightning Ridge is raced by Lockyer Thoroughbreds having been purchased by her trainer Keith Dryden for $260,000 from the draft of Guntawang Stud at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Bred by Charlie Cropper and Peter Wynne, De Lightning Ridge is the third foal of former outstanding racemare Nanny Maroon, a winner of 11 races and close to $400,000 in prizemoney.
Nanny Maroon’s only other foal to race is stakes-placed Coast to the Post, while her three year-old Tall Tales (a full brother to De Lightning Ridge) broke his shoulder in a trackwork accident after showing good ability in the John O’Shea stable.
Tale of the Cat has 12 entries for the 2008 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and 29 for Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
