Encosta Rules With 10 Winners in a Week
8th February 2008
Encosta de Lago has been quite literally on fire in the last week in Australia with an amazing 10 winners in the seven-day period ending on Wednesday February 6, a total number that was double that of his nearest rivals.Crowned Breednet Sire of the Week as a result of his efforts, Encosta de Lago scored metropolitan success with a number of those winners including Delago Star, Le Sillage, Lemasel and the highly talented Cajou (3f Encosta de Lago x Anacarde, by Anabaa), who stormed home from last to win at Rosehill last Saturday.
A $600,000 purchase for Woodlands Stud from the draft highgrove Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Cajou looked to be among the best juveniles last season when fourth to Mimi Lebrock in the Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic.
Her subsequent efforts were not quite up to scratch, but with a good spell and change in riding tactics allowing the filly to be ridden cold Cajou reverted to top form last week and could easily become a player in the Black Type fillies races this autumn.
Encosta de Lago is riding high on the Australian general sires list in second spot to Zabeel, but has every chance of overhauling the Cambridge Stud heavyweight with a raft of promising young horses coming through and flagbearer Racing to Win scheduled to resume in the next few weeks.
Yearling buyers will be pleased to note Encosta deLago has significant drafts of youngsters to be offered at upcoming sales with nine at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, 40 at Magic Millions and more to come at Inglis Easter.
