G2 success for Turtle Island mare Liskennett
28th January 2008
The blue-blooded Turtle Island mare Liskennett (5m Turtle Island-Generosa, by Generous) put in a gutsy display to land the G2 Toshiba Novices’ Hurdle over two and a half miles on a star-studded card at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Charles Byrnes’ charge, who was bred by Padraig Pierce, is a daughter of Generosa - winner of the Pertemps Final at the 1999 Cheltenham Festival - and she herself could be heading to Prestbury Park in March.
"I thought she'd win at Limerick over Christmas, but she didn't handle the heavy ground and just stopped after the third-last. On her best form she had a good chance today, " said Byrnes.
"She'll have an entry in the three-mile novice race at Cheltenham (G1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle) and good to yielding ground will suit her. Of course, her mother Generosa won at the Festival."
