Solid Start for Encosta

Encosta de Lago got away to a solid start as the fifth leading sire by average during the opening session of the 2008 NZB Premier Yearling Sale with his eight yearlings averaging $295,000 led by a cracking colt from Lake Alexandrina that made $520,000.

Offered by Curraghmore Stud as Lot 217, he comes from the family of Golden Slipper winner and leading sire Marauding and was knocked down to Queensland based Lakeview Stud Pty Ltd.

Hong Kong buyers were particularly keen on Encosta de Lago following the success of his outstanding son Sacred Kingdom and they secured colts from Haddria for $425,000 and Danzanta for $300,000, both going to the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Encosta de Lago should be in demand on Tuesday with some of his best youngsters still to come.
