Galileo Filly Could Be Oaks Material

29th December 2007

The Peter Moody trained Skye Gold (3f Galileo - Devil's Gold, by Bellotto) stamped herself as a filly of potential after winning her third consecutive race at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The daughter of Galileo was sent out favourite after winning her last two starts in good style at the provincials and had no worries in handling the jump in class to a Saturday metropolitan event for three year-olds over 1600 metres.

Ridden a perfect race by Luke Nolen, Skye Gold sat off the pace before challenging strongly in the straight and going on to score by more than a length, taking her record to three wins from five starts.

“I thought she might have been looking for the mile and a quarter now, so she’s done a good job to win today,” said Peter Moody.

“We’ll probably put her away now as she’s deserved a crack at some of the better races and we might look at a couple of Oaks races for her in Adelaide or Brisbane, maybe even the AJC Oaks. She’s a lovely filly with a pedigree and can stay all day.”

Purchased for $300,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Mr Geoff Guest and Ms Jill Kewish from the draft of Coolmore Stud, Skye Gold (pictured as a yearling) is a three-quarter sister to Group Three winning juvenile filly Bardego and is the fifth foal of stakes-placed Devil’s Gold.

A daughter of the very good broodmare sire Bellotto from the family of stakes-winners Thai Jewel and Tat Ta Tatiana, Devil’s Gold also had a weanling colt by Fastnet Rock sell at the 2007 Magic Millions National Sale in June for $130,000 to the bid of Lockyer Thoroughbreds.
