Smart Sandown Winner for Choisir

19th December 2007

The Lee Freedman trained Choican (3f Choisir - Deanna's Smile , by Smile) made it back-to-back wins when posting her first metropolitan success at Sandown on Wednesday in the restricted event for three year-old fillies over 1200 metres.

A runaway maiden winner at Moe on December 4, the good looking daughter of Choisir carried that form to town, surging clear to win by more than two lengths after enjoying a good run in transit just off the pace.

Placed at two of her three starts prior to a spell, Choican has returned a much stronger filly and looks capable of winning in better company.

Choican was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park for her WA based breeder Graham Daws and sold under the Yarraman banner at the 2005 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $100,000.

Subsequently re-offered at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Perth by Gervase Park, Choican was snapped up by Victorian syndicators Slade Bloodstock for $125,000.

Choican is a half-sister to Group Three winner Lock and Load and stakes-winner Kim Uma being from the very good producer Deanna’s Smile (USA), a half-sister to Australian stakes-winner Cannyanna.
