Rock Filly Wins in South Africa

16th December 2007

Rock of Gibraltar has had a number of smart winners in South Africa and added another at Turffontein on Saturday when the Charles Laird trained filly Gibraltar’s Secret (2f Rock of Gibraltar - Secret Truth, by Secretariat) saluted in the 1200 metre maiden for fillies and mares.

Gibraltar’s Secret was having her fourth race starts after placing three times previously and kicked right away for a commanding win, going to the line some five lengths clear of her rivals.

A $220,000 purchase from the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Gibraltar’s Secret (pictured as a yearling) was bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and is from the good producing Secretariat mare Secret Truth.

Gibraltar’s Secret is a half-sister to five winners including American Group Two winner Pleasant Secret.

She becomes the fourth South African winner for Rock of Gibraltar joining Group One winner Seventh Rock, Listed winner Uber Rock and two time winner Rock’s Broad, all Australian bred.
