Danehill Dancer Filly Wins First Sydney Juvenile
15th December 2007
The first juvenile race of the season was run at Rosehill on Saturday with in form trainer David Payne producing the winner, a stylish filly called Stripper (2f Danehill Dancer - Miss Charmer, by Zabeel).
A barrier trial winner at Randwick on November 28, Stripper settled back to midfield before charging home late to score an impressive win in the 1100 metre event.
Carrying just 52 kg with a 3kg claim for apprentice jockey Brett Poulus, Stripper proved too strong for Deleque and Miss Monashee.
“She’ll be a lovely filly later on,” said Payne.
“She still doesn’t know what she’s doing yet but we’ll bring her back in the autumn for races like the Sires. That was a very pleasing and encouraging effort today as she had only had one trial and was no where near tuned up.”
Raced by John Cordina, a long time client of David Payne, Stripper was purchased by James Bester Bloodstock for $115,000 at the 2006 Inglis Select Weanling Sale.
Bred and offered for sale by Lurline Lodge, Stripper is the fifth foal of the Group Three placed Zabeel mare Miss Charmer, who comes from the family of Golden Slipper winner Belle du Jour and smart Group One winning sprinter Perfectly Ready.
Stripper is the first Australian juvenile winner this season for Danehill Dancer , who returned directly to Ireland following the outbreak of EI and did not cover in Australia this spring.
