17th November 2007

Classy stayer Zipping (6g Danehill - Social Scene, by Grand Lodge) rebounded from his excellent Melbourne Cup fourth with a stylish victory in the Group Two MRC Sandown Classic over 2400 metres on Saturday.

Sent out hot favourite, the six year-old gelding finished with a well-timed run zooming straight past Jukebox Johnny and Baughurst to score a soft win, his eleventh in 28 starts.

Now prepared by John Sadler, following the resignation of previous trainer Graeme Rogerson, the Lloyd Williams owned son of Danehill (USA) was purchased by Rogerson for $190,000 at the 2003 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and has won $1.4 million in prizemoney.

A winner on debut as a two year-old, Zipping then went missing during his three year-old season but returned in good form at four working swiftly through his grades. From September through until November in 2005, he won six consecutive races including his first Black Type success in the Listed VRC HKJC Plate over 1800 metres.

Last spring he won the Group Two MVRC Moonee Valley Cup before running fourth in the Melbourne Cup and this year he’s done it the other way around, running fourth in the Cup and then capturing another Group Two!

Bred and offered for sale by Swettenham Stud, Zipping is the first foal of the Grand Lodge mare Social Scene, a half-sister to multiple Group One winning stayer Scorpion, a new addition to the Coolmore national hunt roster in 2008.

Social Scene is no longer part of the Swettenham broodmare band having changed hands on a number of occasions and is now owned by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds.
