Hat-Trick for Miss Marielle
8th November 2007
The David Hayes trained filly Miss Marielle (3f Encosta de Lago - Miss Vandal, by Don't Say Halo) has really hit her straps over the last few weeks posting three successive wins culminating in a powerful victory in the Listed VRC Star Track Express Stakes at Flemington on Thursday.Taking on colts and geldings for the first time and stepping out to 1800 metres, Miss Marielle reveled in the task at hand, proving too good for the well bred colts Gazza Guru and Raeburn.
Miss Marielle (pictured as a yearling) took her overall record to four wins from seven starts with earnings in excess of $250,000 and after dodging the Group One fillies events this spring, could well step up to the plate in the autumn.
A $330,000 purchase from the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale offered by Broadwater Farm, Miss Marielle has proven an outstanding buy for the Perrin brothers .
Bred by Contract Racing, who later sold her dam Miss Vandal for $295,000 at the 2005 Inglis Broodmare Sale, Miss Marielle is the second foal of the West Australian Group Three winner, a half-sister by Don’t Say Halo to another stakes-winner in Krystal Storm.
Miss Marielle is one of five Australian stakes-winners this season for Encosta de Lago, who has also had stakes-winners in New Zealand (Princess Coup) and Hong Kong (Sacred Kingdom).
He is currently covering a full book at Coolmore at a fee of $220,000.
