Fighting Win for Gamble Me
8th November 2007
‘Tough as teak’ filly Gamble Me (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Good Gamble, by Pleasant Tap) dug deep at Flemington on Thursday to score a courageous win in the Listed VRC Cadbury Eden Stakes over 1200 metres. The Lee Freedman trained filly drew a wide gate in 14 and went straight to the outside fence where she set a brisk tempo before holding all rivals at bay to score by a head.
A neatly built bay daughter of Rock of Gibraltar, Gamble Me pinned her ears back and drove to the line, extending her white tipped nose in fierce determination.
“She’s a good honest filly and I knew she’d dig in for a fight,” said winning rider Steve Arnold.
“It settled down to a two horse war at the finish and she was just too strong.”
Gamble Me has been in terrific form this spring winning three races and taking her overall record to four wins and four placings from 11 starts with earnings in excess of $240,000.
Bred and raced by Gooree Stud, Gamble Me is a half-sister to Sydney metropolitan winner Cara Y Cruz (USA), being from the imported mares Pleasant Tap mare Good Gamble, whose dam Looking for Gold is a full sister to champion sire Seeking the Gold.
Coolmore based Rock of Gibraltar is covering his fifth consecutive book of Australian mares at a fee of $82,500 after spending the Northern Hemisphere season in Japan, but is due back in Ireland for the 2008 breeding season.
