Deserved Stakes Win for Juste Momente

6th November 2007

Royally bred mare Juste Momente (4m Giant's Causeway - Skates , by Danehill) broke through for a deserved Black Type win at Flemington on Cup Day, fighting on doggedly to take the Listed VRC Liberty Financial Stakes over 1400 metres by a long head.

Stakes-placed three times previously, the connections of Juste Momente were delighted to see her find the winner’s circle this time as she held off Zip Baby Zip and Goldfield Ashes in a thrilling finish.

Prepared by Danny O’Brien for a syndicate that includes himself, Widden Stud and partners, Juste Momente has won $337,875 in winning five races and placing four times from 17 starts.

A $300,000 purchase for Danny O’Brien from the Coolmore draft at the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Juste Momente (pictured as a yearling) is by Giant’s Causeway from the Danehill mare Skates.

She is the 35th stakes-winner worldwide for her sire Giant’s Causeway, who has had stakes-winners around the world over the last few days with Our Giant and Naissance Royale scoring Group Two wins in South Africa and North America respectively.

Juste Momente is the third foal and first stakes-winner for her dam Skates, who is a stakes-placed three-quarter sister to last season’s top juvenile Murtajill and Magic Millions winner and promising young sire Bradbury’s Luck.

Juste Momente’s grand-dam Skating was the champion sprinting filly of her time with wins in the Group One AJC Doncaster Handicap and STC Coolmore Classic and has proven just as successful at stud in leaving six stakes horses.

Skates had a colt by Fusaichi Pegasus fetch $800,000 to the bid of respected bloodstock agent John Foote at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year and she has a yearling colt by Encosta de Lago for next year.
