$1.1 million Rock Of Gibraltar colt tops Tattersalls Sale
5th November 2007
Rock Of Gibraltar’s three-year-old son Yellowstone (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Love And Affection, by Exclusive Era) topped the 2007 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale when selling for 520,000gns ($1.1 million) to trainer Stan Moore. The price was just 5,000gns short of the sale record.
Yellowstone, who was bred by Tullamaine Castle Stud and partners, won the G3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood in July and went on to finish a close second to subsequent St Leger winner Lucarno in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.
Moore outbid Californian trainer Bob Hess for the colt who will race for Dubai-based owners Dr Jim and Fitri Hay at the Dubai Carnival next year before being campaigned in some of the leading global events.
"Horses like him don’t come on the market very often so you have to pay the price," said Moore. "He’ll go to the Dubai Carnival and then hopefully on to other places - he’s the sort of horse that can be a worldwide campaigner and that’s what you need in this day and age."
Yellowstone continued a great sales season for Rock Of Gibraltar, who has had yearlings make up to 900,000 euros this autumn. He returns to Coolmore in Ireland for 2008 when he will stand for 35,000 euros.
