G1 glory for daughter of Galileo

29th October 2007

Galileo’s gutsy daughter Allegretto (4f Galileo-Alleluia by Caerleon) gained a well-deserved first Group 1 success in Paris on Sunday afternoon when landing the G1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Cheveley Park Stud’s beautifully-bred filly had already won the G2 Doncaster Cup and G2 Henry II Stakes this year, as well as last season’s G2 Lancashire Oaks, and is set to stay in training next season with Sir Michael Stoute when she looks to be a major contender for further G1 glory.

Allegretto was at the rear of the field entering on the home straight but battled on gamely to beat Macleya.

"They went a decent pace, which was good as she needs to switch off and she loves passing horses," explained winning rider Ryan Moore.

"She picked up well today and loved the good ground because she doesn’t want it too fast or too soft. She tries really hard and sticks her neck out at the right moment. She deserved this success."

Allegretto, who was bred by Kirsten Rausing and Airlie Stud, was bought by Cheveley Park Stud for 415,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. She is a daughter of G3 Doncaster Cup winner Alleluia, who comes from the family of young Coolmore sire Aussie Rules as well as other G1 stars such as Alborada, Albanova, Yesterday and Quarter Moon.
