Stakes Success for Miss Marielle
27th October 2007
Improving filly Miss Marielle (3f Encosta de Lago - Miss Vandal, by Don't Say Halo) posted her first Black Type success when she proved too strong in the Listed MVRC Arrow Training Services Stakes over 1600 metres at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The David Hayes trained filly was always prominent from gate one and scored by the best part of a length from Bird of Fire (3f Stravinsky - Go You Beauty, by Comet Shine).
A winner on debut as a juvenile at Moonee Valley back in February, Miss Marielle has taken a while to find top form again but with back-to-back wins at her last two starts looks well placed to continue the winning run to Flemington.
A $330,000 purchase from the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale offered by Broadwater Farm, Miss Marielle (pictured as a yearling) has proven a good buy for the Perrin brothers winning three races and $152,800 from just six starts.
Bred by Contract Racing, who later sold her dam Miss Vandal for $295,000 at the 2005 Inglis Broodmare Sale, Miss Marielle is the second foal of the West Australian Group Three winner, a half-sister by Don’t Say Halo to another stakes-winner in Krystal Storm.
Miss Marielle becomes the fourth Australian stakes-winner this season for Encosta de Lago, who has also had stakes-winners in New Zealand (Princess Coup) and Hong Kong (Sacred Kingdom).
He is currently covering a full book at Coolmore at a fee of $220,000.
