Dylan Thomas will retire to Coolmore for 2008

23rd October 2007

We are excited to welcome one of the most exceptional performers of recent seasons to Coolmore’s 2008 roster in Dylan Thomas, a horse that fills every category you could look for in a sire. From the penultimate crop of Danehill, he has the pedigree, looks and temperament to go with his simply outstanding record as a racehorse.
A half-brother to the champion two-year-old filly Queen’s Logic, he was a smart juvenile himself, winning twice his first two starts both over seven furlongs. But he just got better and better as he got older, winning six Group 1 races at three and four including the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (watch replay), the Irish Derby (watch replay), the Irish Champion Stakes (twice) (watch replay 2006, 2007), the Prix Ganay (in record time) (watch replay) and earlier this month landed a famous victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris (watch replay).
Bred on the same Danehill/Sharpen Up cross as Danehill Dancer, he is described by Timeform as a “big, strong, lengthy” and “genuine” horse.
Christy Grassick, Coolmore’s manager, commented: “We’ve already had numerous enquiries about him from breeders both here in Ireland and abroad so we just wanted to put everyone in the picture. Dylan Thomas has everything it takes to make a great stallion and Danehill is already proving a remarkable sire of sires with the likes of Danehill Dancer, Rock Of Gibraltar, Dansili, Danetime and Redoute's Choice all enjoying a great year on the racecourse.”
