Fantabulous Group Two Win for Miss
20th October 2007
Talented Encosta de Lago mare Miss Fantabulous (4m Encosta de Lago - Miss Chanel, by Splendent) featured at Caulfield on Saturday when she zoomed through along the inside to snatch a valuable win in the Group Two MRC Harrolds Stakes over 1400 metres.Ridden a treat by Michael Rodd from barrier one, the David Hayes trained Miss Fantabulous proved too strong at the line for Bellini Rose and Like It Is, scoring by a three parts of a length.
A stakes-winner back in February when trained by Matthew Ellerton, Miss Fantabulous actually defeated subsequent Group One winner Devil Moon on that occasion when winning the Listed SAJC Redelva Stakes so has never been short on ability.
“The runs kept coming for us along the fence,” said winning rider Michael Rodd.
“She’s probably been a bit unlucky at her last couple of starts so it was a good win.”
A $380,000 purchase from the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Miss Fantabulous (pictured as a yearling) has won four races from 19 starts earning prizemoney of $299,150
Bred and offered for sale by Fred Peisah’s Lomar Park Stud, she is the third foal of minor winner Miss Chanel, a half-sister by Splendent to Group One winner Super Elegant and Group Two and Three winners Elegancy and Mister Elegant, her third dam being legendary producer Social Smile.
As a Group Two winning daughter of champion sire Encosta de Lago from one of Australia’s most prolific Black Type families, Miss Fantabulous is now looking decidedly good value on her purchase price.
Miss Chanel has a yearling colt by Fusaichi Pegasus and was covered by Encosta de Lago last spring.
Encosta de Lago made it a winning double at Caulfield on Saturday with Miss Marielle (3f Encosta de Lago - Miss Vandal, by Don't Say Halo) , who won the open event for three year-old fillies over 1400 metres.
He also went tantalizingly close to Group One success in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup providing both place-getters in Douro Valley and Princess Coup who chased home Master O’Reilly in a drama filled event with hot favourite Maldivian taken out after a barrier mishap.
