Rock colt Kandahar so impressive
20th October 2007
Trainer Henry Cecil was full of praise for Kandahar Run (2c Rock Of Gibraltar-Kenmist by Kenmare) after the Rock Of Gibraltar colt had run away with the Peter Stone Memorial Houghton Conditions Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
The Britton House Stud-bred juvenile was a deeply impressive three and a half length winner and looks a bright prospect for next year.
"He is a great big baby and he could be a very nice horse when he gets his act together - I like him very much," said Cecil.
Kandahar Run was completing a juvenile double for his sire after the Paul Cole-trained General Eliott (2c Rock Of Gibraltar-Marlene-D, by Selkirk), bred by Maddenstown Equine Enterprises, had taken the opening mile maiden in good style on his debut.
The colt had been working well with some smart stablemates and Cole said: "We have always thought highly of him but he has had a few minor hiccups which is why he is only appearing now, and he will have learnt a lot."
