22nd Stakes-Winner for Rock of Gibraltar

15th October 2007

Rock of Gibraltar has been churning out stakes-winners in both hemispheres at a dizzying rate this year, with three new stakes-winners in the last two days with Gamble Me and Uber Rock joined by Genuine Devotion (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Starlight Dreams, by Black Tie Affair) , who scored her Black Type success in North America.

Three year-old filly Genuine Devotion became stakes-winner 22 for former champion racehorse Rock of Gibraltar when she took out the Listed Xtra Heat Stakes at Belmont by two and three quarter lengths.

Genuine Devotion sizzled over the over six furlongs on turf clocking a tick over 1:08 for the trip in defeating older mares with authority.

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Genuine Devotion has won three of six starts earning over $US120,000 for her owner James Barry.

She was purchased for $90,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and is from the Black Tie Affair mare Starlight Dreams, a half-sister to stakes-winner Matahif, from the family of Arc winner Sakhee.

With stakes-winners in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, North America and Europe this year, there is no doubting Rock of Gibraltar has the potential to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a truly global sire for Coolmore.

Sent to Japan for the last Northern Hemisphere season, he is due back in Ireland later this year after completing his Southern Hemisphere stint at Jerry’s Plains in the Hunter Valley.
