World Record Price for Sadler’s Wells Filly

A world record price of 2,500,000 guineas ($US5.3 million) was paid on the last day of the 2007 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for a Sadler’s Wells filly from proven Group One producer Brigid.
A full sister to this season’s Group One winning filly Listen, Lot 612 was secured by London based bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson after outlasting agent Simon Christian, who was seated alongside owner Patrick Fahey.
Charlie Gordon-Watson was acting on behalf of Cheshire based owner Craig Bennett, the former Finance Director of mobile phone business ‘Phones4u’. He indicated that the world record-breaking filly would join Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani, who also trains Bennett’s current Melbourne Cup favourite Purple Moon (4h Galileo - Vanishing Prairie, by Alysheba).
The filly was sold on behalf of Brittas House Stud from former Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Mark Dwyer’s Oaks Farm Stables and as well as being a new world record price for a yearling filly, the daughter of Sadler’s Wells is also the highest priced yearling to be sold in the world in 2007.
The previous record for a yearling filly was the $US4,400,000 paid for the Storm Cat filly out of East of the Moon in Kentucky in 2000.
Gordon-Watson struck again on behalf of Craig Bennett late in the day when he went to 1,000,000 guineas to secure Lot 697, the Giant’s Causeway filly out of the Machiavellian mare Ellen.
A half-sister to Group placed Faslen, she is a grand-daughter of 1,000 Guineas winner Sleepytime and was consigned to the sale from Lady Joanna Wellesley's Marston Stud.
Coolmore based sires dominated the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale producing eight of the top ten lots sold at the sale.
