750,000 guineas Galileo colt continues great sale for Coolmore sires
12th October 2007
Thursday’s third session of Tattersalls’ October Yearling Sale was again dominated by the progeny of Coolmore stallions with a 750,000gns Galileo colt out of the Silver Hawk mare Silver Colours stealing the show when offered from breeder Chris Wright’s Gloucestershire-based Stratford Place Stud.
John Magnier came out best in a duel for the colt with agent John Warren, accompanied by trainer Jeremy Noseda and owner Sir Robert Ogden.
“He was a fabulous colt and one or two of my trainers were pretty angry that I was selling because they said this was the best chance I’d ever have of winning the Derby in my colours. We sell most of the colts and some of the fillies and if we bring them here it’s important people know they are for sale - it’s very rare we take them home,” said Wright.
Montjeu - who had already had yearlings make 520,000gns and 500,000gns - was responsible for another big price when John Magnier fought off John Warren once again for a colt out of the Shernazar mare Zivania (dam of six stakes winners) offered from Peter Kavanagh’s Kildaragh Stud.
Danehill Dancer has been another sire in demand with his Thursday offerings led by a 375,000gns sister to G3 Sweet Solera Stakes winner English Ballet bought by Hugo Lascelles as a long-term breeding prospect.
On Wednesday, Ed Dunlop paid 350,000gns for a Danehill Dancer colt consigned from Highclere Stud while Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock paid 340,000gns for another Danehill Dancer colt.
Meanwhile also on Wednesday, Demi O’Byrne paid 520,000gns for a Montjeu colt out of Secret Dream (by Zafonic), out of G1 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime, bred by Charles H Wacker III and consigned from Voute Sales.
