Listen adds to Sadler’s record
30th September 2007
Three days after Listen (2f Sadler's Wells-Brigid, by Irish River) had given Sadler's Wells his 71st Group 1 winner when landing the G1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Ascot, he set a new benchmark at the Goffs Million Sale.
A Sadler's Wells filly out of the three-time G1 winner Alborada, who is from the family of Coolmore sire Aussie Rules, made 2.4 million euros when knocked down to Demi O'Byrne.
The sale-topper, consigned from Kirsten Rausing's Staffordstown, is the dearest yearling filly ever to be sold in Ireland and the most expensive yearling to pass through a European sale ring for five years.
The Goffs Million Sale proved a fantastic event for those that had used Coolmore stallions - who sired eight of the top 10 lots and the second top price came for a Rock Of Gibraltar filly out of Spirit Of Tara consigned from Pat O'Kelly's Kilcarn Stud. She was bought for 900,000 euros by agent Dermot Farrington on behalf of Glenview House Stud.
