10th Aussie Winner for Rock

16th September 2007

The Lee Freedman trained colt Jabal Tarik (3c Rock of Gibraltar - Marooned Lady, by Marooned) provided exciting young sire Rock of Gibraltar with his tenth individual Australian winner this season when he saluted in the 1400 metre maiden at Ballarat on Sunday by more than a length.

An $800,000 purchase for Katsumi Yoshida from the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Jabal Tarik is a half-brother to champion filly Special Harmony, who was also trained by Lee Freedman to win 10 races including three Group Ones and $1.8 million in prizemoney.

Jabal Tarik is the eighth foal of celebrated producer Marooned Lady, whose other superior offspring include Group Two winners Redwoldt and King Canute.

Marooned Lady has no yearling this year after missing in 2005, but did produce a chestnut filly by Galileo on September 1.
